Dwarves
Though small in stature, they are large in heart. Their small size also hides their great strength and constitution to the unobservant.
Dwarves have been great armorers and weaponsmiths for generations and their history as well as their crafting is taught to every dwarven boy and girl. Because of this, dwarves can partially identify weapons and armor just by looking them over carefully and comparing them to what he or she knows about similar items in lore.
All dwarves have an innate love and ability with axes. Even the most devout dwarven cleric would feel out of sorts without an axe nearby. This gives them uncanny ability when wielding such weapons.
The awesome strength and constitution of dwarves make them great fighters. The stray dwarf that chooses to become a priest or wizard can use the strength and constitution to offset the lack of physical prowess that comes from years of studying the arcane arts and neglecting physical conditioning. At first glance, a dwarves stubby legs might not seemed suited to a life as a rogue, but this is more than made up for in their sturdiness and ability to handle themselves in a fight (perhaps when they fail in their stealth?)
